Dear SIGITE Community,

I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you! After a long and patient wait, the ACM SIG Governing Board has officially approved our request to rename our SIG from SIG on Information Technology Education (SIGITE) to SIG on Cybersecurity and Information Technology Education (SIGCITE)—a significant milestone for our community.

Since the publication of the ACM IT2008 curricular report, Information Assurance and Security topics have been recognized as integral components of the IT body of knowledge, forming a distinct Knowledge Area. For years, our annual conference has consistently featured a strong emphasis on cybersecurity education. From SIGITE 2018 to SIGITE 2024, a notable percentage of accepted submissions included “security” or “cybersecurity” related topics as keywords, demonstrating the community’s continued engagement with these critical topics.

With the increasing integration of cybersecurity into IT education programs this name change reflects our commitment to advancing high-quality computing education that meets the evolving needs of academia and industry.

Our collaboration with two and four-year institutions is essential, as many Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity are embedded within IT programs at these institutions. These partnerships are instrumental in developing strong cybersecurity education pathways that align with industry standards and enhance student success. By adopting a name that highlights cybersecurity education, we affirm and strengthen these relationships, further advancing the growth and impact of cybersecurity education at all levels.

At SIGITE 2024, our theme, Borderless Frontiers: Integrating Emerging Technologies, Secure, and Ethical Computing in Education, highlighted the integration of key IT domains—particularly AI, security, and their ethical implications—into education. This theme underscored the intersection between SIGITE and SIGCSE, with security serving as a pivotal connection point.

I invite you to join us at the SIGCITE Annual Conference 2025, scheduled for November 6–8, 2025, at Cosumnes River College, in Sacramento, California. For more details, see: https://sites.google.com/ccecc.acm.org/acm-sigcite-2025

I sincerely appreciate your support and dedication to our shared mission. Your contributions play a vital role in advancing our initiatives, fostering collaboration, and driving meaningful progress in computing education and cybersecurity. Thank you for being an integral part of this journey.
